Yesterday afternoon I met with Mr. in the company of Messrs. Shepanek and Holmes The purpose of the meeting was to ascertain Mr.K collection of cer- tain events in Mexico City in connection with the visit of Lee Harvey Oswald there. I told Mr. the question that had arisen over the memoires Sf in Sc~tt. 2. While Mr. has not read the Scott memoires, he said that he cou ld offer speculation on how Scott .came to write such a thina. Mr. Scott at times was prone to exaggeration. aid that Oswald's visit came at the end of the summer. The summer was a period when lots of k oks came to Mexico and contacted the Soviet Embassy. m )said that this proved to be very time consuming from te Station's point of view as the Station was obliged to report to Headquarters and appropriate Embassy components on these people when they were identified. He considered this function to be one of no profit operationally, although it was of course a necessary CI responsibility. 3. When Oswald identified imse f in a telephone call to the Soviets it was viewed-b as being a meaning- less instance of one more probable usefess contact to report; for the Station had no record or file on Oswald. 0 jwife, a part-time employee, ended up writing a caIe. On the question of photographic coverage he said there is a practical explanation of why there were no photographs of Oswald. He said the work was very boring.
