International Labor Standards

and Global Economic Integration:

Proceedings of a Symposium

U.S. Department of Labor
Robert B. Reich, Secretary
Bureau of International Labor-Affairs
Joaquin F. Otero, Deputy Under Secretary
July 1994

In recognition of the International Labor
Organization's 75th Anniversary and the
growing focus on the relationship between
labor standards and international trade, the
U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of
International Labor Affairs sponsored a
one-day symposium on April 25, 1994,
entitled International Labor Standards and
Global Economic Integration.

This symposium brought together a diverse
group of U.S. and foreign government
officials, congressional staff, academics, trade
unionists, business persons, and other private
sector representatives to consider the policy
issues related to the linkage between
international labor standards and international
trade. This volume presents the proceedings
of that symposium.
