April 5, 1994-September 30, 1994
In Rwanda during 1994, a campaign of genocide produced the mass murder of up to a million
persons, which led to renewed civil war, which produced the largest, swiftest exodus of refugees
ever seen, which resulted in a massive humanitarian emergency, which exists to this day. The
U.S. Committee for Refugees has compiled this straightforward chronology as a reference source
depicting, virtually day by day, the unfolding of one of the greatest tragedies of our time.
This chronology was prepared by Tom Argent, Jeff Drumtra, and Katie Hope, of the U.S.
Committee for Refugees, in October 1994.
