       Further reference is made to your letter dated arch 29, 1973,
  concerning your~claim for the'one-half ahare-o.t the arrears of pay and
  combat payjreservd for the father of your lato non, Privato First
  Clas  Roert  D. ZHedford, USMG, Serial No. 1173442, who died Sept=-
  bar 15, 1951, the other one-half share, reprooenting $1U7.74 arrears
  of pay and $11.25 cobat pay having been allowed you by oettlenants of
  our Transportation and Claims Diviolon dated Decenber 28, 1951 and
  July 20, 1953, respectively.

       The record ohowse that your elait for the one-half shtire recerved
  for Mr. Medford was the oubjoct of a latter from our Trannportation
  and Claims Division dated March 22, 1973, in which you were advisued
  that undor the provisions of the act of October 9, 1940, 54 Stat.
  1061, 31 U.S.C. 71a, which requires that any claim not recaived in
  the General Accnunting Offi c within ten fuU yeAre after the date
  thq claim first accrued, your claim for that reserved shore nuat be
  dioallowed since no claim by a proper clamant va filed with this
  Office within ten full years from the date of accrual.

       You say that if we check cur files on JLne 22, 1953, we will
  find that you did file a clain, but that o'ii-half of the claired
  amount was being ho.ld for your scn'n father. You nay also that you
  had neither seen nor hoard from your late soi5s father in fifteen
  years, but now that he is dead you are refiling your clatu for his
  one-half ahpro nf your con's estate and feed that you should be paid,
  with intoreat.

       The record show that you receivod $168.99, representing your
  oie-half share of the amount due your late son at his death, and that
  the other half was roaerved for the decadent's natural father pending
  receipt of a claim from him by this Office, but that no such'elain
  was aver received. Tho record also shows that a cartifiod copy of a
  Certificate of Death fronm the Department of Iealth of the State of
  Arizona issued on February 17, 1969, shows th, data of death of &
  Cecil Hfdford, father of Robert D. Hedford, to be June 23, 1968.
