Departmnt  of the Interior, fdr  ruling 1y our Off ice
concrning  the,ro' b riety of pai'ment of a settleent
entered into between th   aish Fnd Wildlife Service
(Service) and Anheuser-Busch Inic. (Anheuset). The
settlement is for expenses incurred in caring for and
feeding Amazon parrots.
     On October',29, 1974, representatives of the
Se'ivice seized *205 Amazon parrots which had been
imported into the United Statesfrom Mexico in violation
of the provisions of the Lacey Act, 18 U.S.C. S 43(a)(2)
(1976).  Since the Service did no have facilities for
the care of the parrots, they wereoplaced for temporary
care 4ith Aheuser at its Busch Gardens in Van Nuys,
California, by Mr. Gdne Wilson, Senior Resident Agent,
Division of Law Enforcement, Fish and Wildlife Service,
Long Beach, C&iifcinia. No agreement Ias entered into
at that time between the Service and Anheuser relating
to the cost or payment for the care. However, Mr. Wilson
did ask Busch Gar-dens to determine a cost for the care.
