COMPTROLLER GENERAL OF THE UNITED STATES
                          WASHINGTON25

 B-114876 DEC 2 -1958

 Honorable Clarence Cannon, Chairman
 Committee on Appropriations
 House of Representatives

 Dear Mr. Chairman:

The General Accounting Office basexamined the re.
port submitted.to the Comptroller General of the United
States by the Chief Commissioner of the Indian Claims
Commission under section 1311 of the Supplemental Appro.
priation Act, 1955, relating to appropriations tmd funds
under the control of the INDIAN CLAIMS COMMISSION as of
June 30, 1958. Copies of the Commission's report also
were required to be submitted to the Chairmen of the Com-
mittees on Appropriations of the Senate and House of Rep.
resentatives and to the Director cf the Bureau of the
Budget.

Our examination was directed at testing the accuracy
and validity of the obligated but unexpended balances and
the unobligated balances reported in the appropriation
accounts. It is our opinion that the report presents
fairly the status of the appropriation accounts under the
Commission's control as of June 30, 1958, in conformance
with the provisions of section 1311 of the Supplemental
Appropriation Act, 1955.

We also ascertained that the Commission made the
withdrawals of unobligated balances required by Public
Law 798, 84th Congress.

A similar letter is being sent today to the Chairman
of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.

                                Sin erely yours,

                                Comptroller General
                                of the United States
