The accompanying financial statements (schedules 1, 2, and 3) were prepared by the Office of the Treasurer of the United States and in our opinion present fairly the accountability of the Treasurer of the United States at June 30, 1970 and 1971, in conformity with principles and standards of accounting prescribed by the Comptroller General of the United States, applied on a basis consistent with that of the preceding 2 years except that the individual account balances included in the general account of the Treasurer (schedule 1) are now presented on a final basis. At June 30, 1970 and 1971, the Treasurer's accountability amounted to about $74.5 billion and $75.1 billion, respectively.
