Dear Sir:

Our audit of travel, commercial (other than cost-type contract
payments) and temporary lodging allowance (TLA) vouchers paid by the
accounting and finance officer (AFO) at your installation for the
period February 1 through 28, 1973, disclosed one error for $48.24
in a sample of 167 travel voucher payments, an error rate of 0.6
compared to the Air Force-wide error rate of 1.3. This error was
an underpayment on voucher number T-8674 caused by the use of an in-
correct distance for travel from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to Sheppard
Air Force Base, Texas. Mileage was based on 708 miles rather than
the correct distance of 1512 miles.

In addition to the audit of travel vouchers for monetary errors,
we examined the vouchers of military memberb for accuracy of compu-
tation of delay en route chargeable as leave and for timeliness of
input of leave information to the members' centralized leave accounts.
This is in addition to the Interim Leave System examination, the
results of which were reported to you by our letter of July 25, 1973.

Of the 167 travel vouchers in our sample, 11 showed delay en
route. We are pleased to report that our examination of these 11
vouchers showed that all periods of leave were transmitted for posting
with the correct number of days and that the periods of leave were
entered on the Daily Transaction Listings on a timely basis after
payment was made for the travel.

Our prior letter dated November 16, 1971, covering the audit of
vouchers for the period July 1, 1970 through March 31, 1971, reported
one error for travel vouchers (error rate 0.7) and three errors for
TLA vouchers (error rate 11.1).

The findings of our current audit indicate that your controls
for voucher payments are satisfactory.

                  C ( K t
