However, in December 1992, DOD stopped the move of tactical missile maintenance into Letterkenny Army Depot and recently advised us that it was unsure how this mission would be accomplished. Because of the uncertainty surrounding DOD's proposal to consolidate tactical missile maintenance, we agreed with your offices to terminate our review at this time and report on the information we had already gathered on DOD's proposal as of January 1993. During our review, DOD was in the process of reexamining the costs and savings of consolidating tactical missile maintenance at a single location. This reexamination was being made to reflect the significant decrease in the work load that had been projected for tactical missiles. However, a federal district court judge ruled in December 1992 that the movement of tactical missile work from the Anniston Army Depot to Letterkenny y Depot, or any other depot, would be prohibited unless D D used competitive procedures to determine which depo should perform this work.
