In each of the cases, the hnspection Service chared the appre- hended employee with mail losses in addition to the mail the mployee waA caught stealing s=d requested payment from the surety tort losses not collected from the employee. For the 17 cases, the losses charged to the employees totaled Z4,$O. Of this amount, only $1,700 could be recovered tron the employees. 4wnother $19,600 was requested from the surety, but only $3,900 had been received at of the date of our re- view.
