 Dear Senator Sasser:

     This is in response to your letter of August 13, 1979, concerning
calls received by the Geeral Accouting Office Fraiud Tasl Force hot-
line sttf alle;jijg ijrproprietaes in Tennessee Valley Authority ('VA)
programs. As rou know, the Fraud Task Fbrce, with the assistance of
our Atlanta Regional Office staff looked into an allegation of mBtuor
theft, and retaliation against the enployee who reported tho problem
several nonths ag. O: findings vx.re providel to TVA's legal counsel
on May 21, 1979, for consideration in reop .ning the case in question.
We plan to nonitor TVA's progress until the allegaton is satifactorily
resolved.

     Our Atlanta Regiional Off ice has recently established an on-site
 audit group at the WTVA ald has agreed to foll0ci.-up on all hotiue
 allqeationS received against 'VA by our Fraud Task Force. If necessary,
 they will 1v supplenunted by Fraud Task Force staff from Washiligton. Of
 the 18 allegations against WA mentioned in your letter, 14 useo to lW
 substantive for follow-up and will bx referral to the on-site auidit
 staff.

     Generally, the 14 allegations .to be follo;.;xd up deal with alleged
 irrejularities in contracting and p:miurenmnt, timz End attendance re-
 porting, right-of--way acquisition, and rcorsonnel practices. (A brief
 suninary of thle allegations is enclosed.) We will piovilde you with a
 status report on the disposition of the allegations at tLhe conclusion
 of our Wol low-up.
