BY THE COMPTROLLER GENERAL RELEASED

Report To The Chairman, Committee On

Government Operations,

House Of Representatives

OF THE UNITED STATES

Consolidation Of United States

Information Agency Activities

In Washington, D.C.

The United States Information Agency will
consolidate about 90 percent of its head-
quarters employees in three adjacent build-
ings at 4th and C Streets, SW. This consoli-
dation should result in more efficient agency
operations and space utilization and in
savings.

Alterations costing $585,000 were recently
completed at one of the buildings to be
vacated under the consolidation. This invest-
ment will be lost.

The Administrator of General Services
should monitor changes in the number of
USIA employees and activities to be as-
signed to the new space at 400 C Street to
ensure that utilization of the space is in
accordance with criteria in Federal Property
Management Regulations.
