The Federal Communications Commission must carry out a variety of complex tasks to implement its Computer II decision, involving the regulatory problems raised by the conver- gence of data processing and communications technologies. The Commission has made Computer II imple- mentation its Common Carrier Bureau's high- est priority and has established a task force with specific responsibility for implementa- tion activities. Questions remain, however, as to whether the Commission has the resources and the capabilities to successfully carry out required tasks. On January 8, 1982, the Department of Jus- tice reached an agreement with the American Telephone and Telegraph Company to settle the antitrust suit.
