The Marine Corps Inspection RELEASED

System Should Use Resources

More Efficiently

The Marine Corps Inspector General's Field
Audit Service could abolish one-third of its
positions without hurting its operating capa-
bility.

The Marine Corps should improve its inspec-
tion system by

      --making fewer noncombat activity
      inspections,

      --reducing overinspection and duplica-
      tion,

      --using more civilians, and

      -developing causes of problems rather
      than reporting on compliance with
      rules and regulations.

This report was requested by the Chairman,
Subcommittee on Legislation and National
Security, House Committee on Government
Operations, and is the third in a series of five
on Department of Defense inspection activi-
ties.
