Mall/fn Washington, D.C., as a result of the American
farmers' demonstration.7/As expressed in your letter,
you were particularly concerned over various reports of
such costs ranging from $500,000 to $3 million.

In accordance with your request and subsequent agree-
ments with your office, we obtained the most recent costi_)1JzJ6
information available from the National Park Service, De-
partment of the Interior, for repairing damages to the
Mall. We also obtained an accounting of the costs for

       provided or assess their reasonableness.

A review of the National Park Service records showed

National Park Service officials said the reasons
for the diff-erence between current and earlier estimates
