Labor Department Is Strengthening
Procedures To Recover Costs
For Federal Employees' Injuries
Caused By Third Parties
The Department of Labor's attempts to
recover costs for Federal civilian employees
with work-related injuries are inadequate. An
additional $4.7 million might have been ]
recovered from third parties in three of
Labor's district offices during a 3-year period
if more aggressive action had been taken.
Claims should be promptly identified, review-
ed, and processed.
Labor is improving its recovery activities. If
properly carried out, the new actions should
solve the problems discussed in this report.
