Management Under The Fishery

Conservation And Management Act


In response to a joint request from the House
Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries
and its Subcommittee on Fisheries and Wild-
life Conservation and the Environment, GAO
assessed progress and problems in fisheries
management under the Fishery Conservation
and Management Act, emphasizing the activi-
ties of the regional fisheries management
councils.
The report addresses the progress made and
the problems encountered in carrying out
the act and contains detailed information on
the activities of each of the five councils
GAO reviewed.

The report includes recommendations to the
Secretary of Commerce.
