concern was expressed ovar the contracting-ct of
travel functions at the Department of lianportation and the
possitle effect of suck an action on the jobs ct employees of
the travel office. The Department is negctiating with the Air
TranspoLtation Association to install a scheduled airliv* ticket
,)ff6ce at the Department which would be staffed and managed by
commercial airline employees &ad would provide travel services
to the Department's employees. There is nc contract inrclved,
and the only obliqation on the part of the Government is to
provide necessary oftice space. The Lepartment estimates that it
can save $120,000 annually by establishicg such an office. Only
8 of the 15 current travel office employees will be needed after
the commercial otfice becomes operational. These emplcyees will
handle administrative work, forei9n travel, and visas, and will
monitor the new operation. The remaining seven employees will be
assisted by the Departuent in findinq suitaLle jobs. (RBS)
