         The Department ot Defense realinement cz the Army Troop
Comman6 and tne Army Aviation Systems LCommand could save an
estimated $6.7 million each year and avoid other costs.
Findinqs/Conclusions: Abolishing the Trccp Support Command and
the Aviation systems Command to form tuc new ccmmands (the U.S.
Army Troop Support and Aviation Material Readibess Ccmmard and
the U.S. Army Aviation Research and Develojment Command) could
cost dbout $14.2 million, primarily to renovate tacilities. The
realinement could reduce staffing requirements hy 335 positions
and could avoid about $19.2 million in costs fcr planned
facility renov-tion which may not te necessary Kt tbe move is
made. ihe readiness ccmmand will have logisticz support and
material readiness missions. The research and develcpment
command will have research, development, and acquisition
missioLO. both new commands would be located at the Pederal
Center, St. Louis, hisscuri. The Trocl Support Command is
already socated at the Federal Center, and the Aviation Ccmnwand
is located at the Federal Building in St. icuis. If the
realinement does occur, the Genczal Services Administration
plans to dispose of this building. It the move does not cccur,
repairs and alterations to the building, estisated at about
$19. million, are planned for fiscal years 1976 thrcugh 19b1.
