      Further reference Is made to letter dated lovember 28, 1972,
 from the Assistant Secretary of the Ar Force (Hanpower and Reserve
 Affairs), requostino a decision concerntnpjroponed anendaients to
 -thi.Joint Travel ecgulationsrelating to tho' travel and transporta-
 tLion allowances of mombera travelin4 by private automobile on porma-
 nant chanpe of otation fron Goose Air ForcA .Base, Canada, t., duty
 stationsa in the United States. The requanr, has been assigned control
 number 72-52 by the Per Diez, Travel and Trunportation Allowance
 Coinittee.

      The Assistant Secretary indicates that currently unifomed
iembors and their dependents are normally movaid to and fran Goose
Air Force banse and the continental United States by air via .Vctuire
Air Thrce Pase, 1-si Jersey, and their automabilen are apparently
nhipped separately, 'e Assistant Secretary also indicates thmat
available cargr shipping schodules from the Goow eAir Force flae
area do nor OLten coincide with the perianent change of station
movement of fanrdlios from (boe Air Force Base and, consequently in
many instances rorobore are faced with conniderable delays and addi-
tional expenue ix. obtaining their privately owned automobiles for
onward move=ent  ith their families.

     It is further stated that to rzko sure 'that their automobiles
will be available in the continental United States .when they arrive,
many uembers are traveling by privately oned vohicle owa car ferry
from Goose Air Force Bane, Canada, to LeWsporte, Na ffoundland, thon
overland by hishway to Fort-aux-Panquea, N ifoundlau4, then via car
ferry to Sydney, ibva Scotia, and thn by highway to' their notw duty
stations In the United States. Henbers uho travel b, privatiy owned
vehicle by this route are presently linited by paragraph H4159-1,
itres I and 3 of the Joint Travel Reoaulationo, to reimburaement at
the rate of $0.06 per nile for the official distance between the old
pormanent otation and the appropriato aerial or water port of embarka-
tdon, and for the official distance betweon the appropriate aerial or
water port of douarkation in the continental United Staten and the new
