         This is in reply to your likcer dated May 23, t1973, referees 750,
    wth enclosures, requeting a decsion an to the propriety of certifying
    for paymmt a voucher submLtd by Kre Roy K ,Wood, a faroremployee
    of the Deparment of the Interiorl,for $273 cpresencting the expense
    nearaed by hi In terminating a lea /Incident to his change of official
    station.

         The record indicstes that by a memorandua dated July, 21, 1912,
    r. Wood was notified that he would be transferred from Atlanta, Georgia,
    to Washinston, D.C., effective August 14, 1972. Hr. Wood owned a resi-
. donee in Centreville, Virginia, which be had been leasing since 1967.
    On July 6, 1972, prior to being nottfted of .he trawfer, Hr. Wood
    entered an agrenent to exted the existing iease on this residence for
    an edditionl year. To acquire possession of these premises for his
    9w residential use incident to his transfer to Wfshington Mr. Wood
    paid the tenants 9225 to obtain a release from -:he rental contract.
    Although the expense of tenduating this unexpited lease was incurred
    for the purpose of obtaining a residence at his now station Incident to
    his transfer, Mr. Wood has claimed relaburseatn for the expense tuvolvnJ
    =der the regulations which permit reimbursement f expenses Involved in          '

         Zn regard to a employee's expense of settling an unexpired lease
    inedent to his transfer, subsection 5724a(a) (4) of title 5, United
