         Ar assessment of national energy problems dealt with
che urgency for new policies to avoid the hervy reliance on
energy impo ts. The critical issues identified were te need for
energy conservation, problems of nuclear fission, future
reliance on fossil feels, especially coal, and possibilities of
alternate sources. Questions were posed about the role of the
Federal Government in wise Lanagement of energy xesources,
including those on public lands. These issues were analyzed from
the points of view of past and current performance and plans for
future emphasis. Findings/Conclusions: There is need for
conservation during the uext 10 years, consolidation of Federal
agencies dealing with energy, and wise management of energy
resources on public lands balanced by environmental
consideratiors. Energy efforts will require coordination of all
branches 4: the Government, industry, and citizens. (HTW)
