Bureau of Indian Affairs

This review was undertaken to examine, on a
single Indian reservation, how different Fed-
eral programs cumulatively affect the stand-
ard of living, considering the values and
aspirations of these Indians.
The review focused on the White Mountain
Apache Tribe, on Fort Apache Indian Reser-
vation, east central Arizona. Many Federal
programs available to Indians were in opera-
tion on this reservation.

This tribe's population and relatively isolated
geographical location provided a well-defined
and appropriately sized statistical base for
such a review.
