       IT'S THE CERTAINTY

RATHER THAN THE SEVERITY

             OF PUNISHMENT

     THAT PREVENTS CRIME

         HENRY WARD BEECHER said:
Capital punishment does not answer the
ends of justice, and often defeats them. While
the fear of hanging does not deter men from
crime, the fear of inflicting death deters many
a jury from finding a just verdict and favors
the escape of criminals. It is the rude justice
         of a barbarous age.

                Will You Help

         Abolish Capital Punishment
              in Massachusetts?

              If so, communicate with
