The World Factbook is produced annually
by the Directorate of Intelligence of the
Central Intelligence Agency. The data are
provided by various components of the
Central Intelligence Agency, the Defense
Intelligence Agency, the Bureau of the
Census, and the US State Department. In
general, information available as of 1
January 1983 was used in the preparation of
this edition, with the following exceptions:
 Population figures are projected estimates
for 1 July 1983; the average annual
growth rates listed are projected estimates
for the period mid-1982 to mid-1983.
 Military manpower estimates are as of 1
January 1983, except the numbers of
males reaching military age, which are
projected averages for the five-year
period 1983-87.
 Major political developments through 29
April 1983 have been included.
