THE ABC FRONT
America, Britain, and China should form a united democratic
front against the unholy alliance of the Axis Powers, declared Dr. Quo
Tai-chi, the new Chinese Foreign Minister, when he arrived at New
York, in midpassage between two bombed capital, London and Chung-
king.
In this A B C front, the United States occupies the central
strategic position, Britain is the first line of defense on the Atlan-
tic, and China is the first line of defense on the Pacific.
Two Battles, One War
The battle of China is not merely a battle for Chungking or
Nanking; it is a battle for the Asiatic continent and the Pacific
ocean.
The battle of England is not merely a battle for the British
Isles; it is a battle for the Eurepsan continent and the Atlxtic
ocean.
In this world war, not only the future of Asia and Europe
but also the destiny of America are at stake.
Should Japan control the Pacific from Asia and Germany
dominate the Atlantic from Europe, the United States would be iso-
lated, and threatened on both sides, by the totalitarian Powers.
Asthe world-wide conflict sharpens, America has pledged
herself as the arsenal of democracy, from which tanks, guns, planes,
and ships will flow across the oceans to Britain and China, the bul-
warks of freedom and the citadels of culture.
