handle is hein.cow/anamacp0161 and id is 1 raw text is: FOREWORD
Tnis volume on Modern Insurance Developments is a successor
to the volumes on Modern Insurance Tendencies published by the
American Academy in March 1927, and Modern Insurance Problems
published by the American Academy in March 1917. Like its predeces-
sors, this volume aims to record the outstanding changes and tendencies
of the past five years in the leading types of insurance. Certain tend-
encies, owing to their noteworthy development and outstanding impor-
tance, are given special emphasis in a number of articles. Thus, three
articles are devoted to the investment nature of life insurance, a factor
greatly stressed during the present industrial depression, and five articles
to the work of conservation and prevention of loss in the various
branches of insurance.
The material in the volume is presented under four main divisions.
The first twelve articles, comprising the first division, deal with im-
portant developments and tendencies in the field of life insurance. The
next thirteen articles, comprising the second division, deal with develop-
ments and tendencies in the fields of property and casualty insurance.
The third division is devoted to educational trends in insurance-a field
in which there has been a remarkable development during recent years.
The fourth and last division is devoted to articles on insurance develop-
ments in England, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Latin America, and
China, whereas the previous volumes were confined to insurance as con-
ducted in the United States.
