Mr. GRIJALVA, from the Committee on Natural Resources,
submitted the following
R E P O R T

The Committee on Natural Resources, to whom was referred the
bill (H.R. 6142) to amend the National Trails System Act to direct
the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a study on the feasibility
of designating the Buckeye Trail as a national scenic trail, and for
other purposes, having considered the same, reports favorably
thereon with an amendment and recommends that the bill as
amended do pass.
Amend the title so as to read:
A bill to amend the National Trails System Act to authorize a
study on the feasibility of designating the Buckeye Trail as a na-
tional scenic trail, and for other purposes.
PURPOSE OF THE BILL
The purpose of H.R. 6142 is to amend the National Trails System
Act to direct the Secretary of the Interior to conduct a study on the
feasibility of designating the Buckeye Trail as a national scenic
trail.
BACKGROUND AND NEED FOR LEGISLATION
H.R. 6142 would require the study of the feasibility of desig-
nating the Buckeye Trail as a national scenic trail. The Secretary
would submit the results of the study to Congress with a rec-
ommendation on designation, but formal designation of the trail
would require a subsequent Act of Congress.
