NATIONAL MEMORIAL

submitted the following

The Committee on Natural Resources, to whom was referred the
bill (H.R. 7618) to designate the Kol Israel Foundation Holocaust
Memorial in Bedford Heights, Ohio, as a national memorial, having
considered the same, reports favorably thereon without amendment
and recommends that the bill do pass.
PURPOSE OF THE BILL
The purpose of H.R. 7618 is to designate the Kol Israel Founda-
tion Holocaust Memorial in Bedford Heights, Ohio, as a national
memorial.
BACKGROUND AND NEED FOR LEGISLATION
H.R. 7618 would designate the Kol Israel Foundation Holocaust
Memorial in Bedford Heights, Ohio, as a national memorial. The
memorial will not be a unit of the National Park System and will
not be eligible to receive federal funds.
Erected in 1961 by survivors of the Holocaust residing in North-
east Ohio, the Kol Israel Holocaust Memorial is one of the oldest
Holocaust memorials in the United States. For more than 60 years,
Kol Israel Foundation has preserved and enhanced the memorial,
which includes the ashes of Jewish victims and artifacts of Jewish
martyrs killed by the Nazis from three concentration camps. En-
graved on surrounding walls are the names of family members who
perished during the Holocaust, as well as the names of departed
