Mr. GRIJALVA, from the Committee on Natural Resources,
submitted the following
R E P O R T

The Committee on Natural Resources, to whom was referred the
bill (H.R. 2899) to direct the Secretary of the Interior to conduct
a study to assess the suitability and feasibility of designating areas
within the island of Guam as a National Heritage Area, and for
other purposes, having considered the same, reports favorably
thereon without amendment and recommends that the bill do pass.
PURPOSE OF THE BILL
The purpose of H.R. 2899 is to direct the Secretary of the Interior
to conduct a study to assess the suitability and feasibility of desig-
nating areas within the island of Guam as a National Heritage
Area.
BACKGROUND AND NEED FOR LEGISLATION
H.R. 2899 would direct the Secretary of the Interior to conduct
a study on the suitability and feasibility of designating areas with-
in the island of Guam as a National Heritage Area. The study
would cover the entire island of Guam and identify areas of nat-
ural, historic, and cultural importance that reflect the traditions,
customs, beliefs, and folklife that represent distinct and nationally
significant aspects of the American story.
COMMITTEE ACTION
H.R. 2899 was introduced on April 28, 2021, by Representative
Michael F.Q. San Nicolas (D-GU). The bill was referred solely to
the Committee on Natural Resources, and within the Committee to
