                     The Committee  on Natural Resources, to whom was referred the
                   bill (H.R. 1248) to amend the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act to des-
                   ignate certain river segments within the York watershed in the
                   State of Maine as components of the National Wild and Scenic Riv-
                   ers System, and for other purposes, having considered the same,
                   reports favorably thereon without amendment   and  recommends
                   that the bill do pass.
                                        PURPOSE  OF THE BILL
                     The purpose of H.R. 1248 is to amend the Wild and Scenic Rivers
                   Act to designate certain river segments within the York watershed
                   in the State of Maine as components of the National Wild and Sce-
                   nic Rivers System, and for other purposes.
                               BACKGROUND  AND  NEED FOR  LEGISLATION
                     H.R. 1248 designates eight segments of the York River, totaling
                   30.8 miles, as components of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers
                   System to be administered by the Secretary of the Interior as a rec-
                   reational river. The segments would be  managed  in accordance
                   with the 2018 York River Watershed Stewardship Plan, which pro-
                   vides for the long-term protection, preservation, and enhancement
                   of the York River and its tributaries. The legislation follows the
