H.R. 2340 would require the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to notify the Congress
within seven days of any suicide or attempted suicide that takes place in or on the grounds of
a VA facility. The bill also would require the department to submit within 60 days of the
incident additional information to the Congress about the veterans' demographics and their
use of VA health care.

CBO estimates that implementing the bill would cost less than $500,000 to prepare necessary
regulations; such spending would be subject to the availability of appropriated funds.

The CBO staff contact for this estimate is Ann E. Futrell. The estimate was reviewed by
Theresa Gullo, Assistant Director for Budget Analysis.
