S. 1858 would direct the Chairman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to
appoint a Chief Data Officer and a Chief Technologist. Based on information from the CPSC
and historical spending for similar positions, CBO estimates that implementing S. 1858
would cost about $2 million over the 2020-2024 period, assuming availability of
appropriated funds.

The CBO staff contact for this estimate is Philippa Haven. The estimate was reviewed by
Leo Lex, Deputy Assistant Director for Budget Analysis.
