April 11, 2006
Honorable J. Dennis Hastert
Speaker of the House
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515
Dear Mr. Speaker:
Pursuant to 10 U.S.C. 226, we hereby submit our joint report on the fiscal year 2007 outlay rates and
prior-year outlays for accounts in function 050, national defense. The attached tables present our
areas of agreement and disagreement.
* Table 1: Estimated Outlay Rates in Agreement
* Table 2: Estimates of Outlays-Prior in Agreement
* Table 3: Estimated Outlay Rates in Disagreement
* Table 4: Estimates of Outlays-Prior in Disagreement
Current law requires CBO and OMB to submit this joint report by January 15 each year. As
proposed last year, we again request that the Congress adopt a later due date, such as April 15, since
the current due date precedes submission of the President's Budget in February and CBO's analysis
of the budget request.
If you would like further information about this report, we would be pleased to provide it. The staff
contacts are Kent Christensen at CBO and Elizabeth Shortino at OMB.
Respectfully submitted,
Joshua B. Bolten Donald B. Marron
Director Acting Director
Office of Management and Budget Congressional Budget Office
