Committee on Rules
U.S. House of Representatives
Washington, DC 20515
Re. The Potential Budgetary Effects of H.R. 596 (Repeal of the Affordable
Care Act)
Dear Mr. Chairman:
We understand that the Committee on Rules is scheduled to meet on
February 2, 2015, to consider H.R. 596, a bill to repeal the Patient
Protection and Affordable Care Act and health care-related provisions in
the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, and for other
purposes. Preparing an estimate of the budgetary impact of that legislation
would take CBO and the staff of the Joint Committee on Taxation at least
several weeks because there are hundreds of provisions in the laws that
would be repealed and those provisions are in various stages of
implementation. Therefore, we are unable to provide such an estimate at
this time.
Sincerely,
Douglas W. Elmendorf
