                                    Appropriations

These tables provide estimates of budget authority and outlays for fiscal years 2002 and 2003. The estimates in
the House and Senate current-status tables are those used by the House and Senate Committees on the
Budget; they include adjustments to CBO's estimates that are shown as scoring directions' on the tables.

Current status refers to the latest stage ol action taken by the Congress on an appropriation bill (for example,
reported out of full committee, passed by the House or Senate, or conference agreement). The tables are
arranged by appropriation subcommittee and, where appropriate, show funding compared with allocations made
for the discretionary categories pursuant to sections 302(a)(1) and 302(b)(1) of the Congressional Budget Act of
1974. Section 302(a)(1)refers to the total discretionary allocation Included In the concurrent resolution on the
budget; section 302(b)(1) refers to the subdivision of that total among the 13 appropriation subcommittees. The
totals and the suballocafions may be increased when appropriations are provided for certain specific purposes
identified in the budget resolution (for example, emergencies, adoption assistance, continuing disability reviews,
the earned income tax credit, and arrearage payments).
