VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION STATEMENT OF DR. STEVEN L. LIEBERMAN, ACTING DEPUTY UNDER SECRETARY FOR VETERANS HEALTH ADMINISTRATION OPENING STATEMENT OF SENATOR MARTIN HEINRICH Senator HEINRICH. Good afternoon, everyone. This hearing of the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriation Subcommittee is now called to order. Well, that is a mouthful, is it not, Ranking Member Boozman. I would start by saying what an honor it is to serve as the chair- man of this subcommittee. And I would like to thank Ranking Member Boozman for his leadership on this subcommittee as well. I look forward to working with you on a bipartisan basis to deliver for our Nation's veterans and their families. And I am proud to have several veterans in my family myself, and to serve a state that has one of the highest rates in military volunteerism in the country. Veterans deserve far more than just words of gratitude for their service when they come home. They de- serve the quality of care and the benefits that they have earned with that service. In my chairmanship I will be especially focused on ensuring a ro- bust COVID-19 vaccination program through the entire VA sys- tem, and providing better healthcare and housing assistance for veterans experiencing homelessness. Most are committed to im- proving the telehealth services that so many rural veterans in New Mexico and all across the country rely upon to receive their critical care. (1)
