handle is hein.brennan/ainfimf0001 and id is 1 raw text is: Department of Homeland Security November 4, 2019 Re: Agency Information Collection Activities: Generic Clearance for the Collection of Social Media Information on Immigration and Foreign Travel Forms (Docket Number DHS-2019-0044) Dear Sir or Madam: The undersigned organizations write to urge the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to withdraw the Department's proposed rule, published at Docket Number DHS-2019-0044, to require disclosure of social media identifiers from certain people seeking to travel or be admitted to the United States, or who are applying for immigration-related benefits, including those who are already living in the country. 1 Civil, human, and immigrant rights organizations have repeatedly opposed the federal government's collection and screening of social media information, and raised concerns about the chilling effect on speech, intrusion into privacy, and disparate impact of the government's policies, as well as the government's discriminatory deployment of this practice.2 Below, we enumerate the risks associated with the the Department's proposed rule to collect and use applicants' social media information as part of its vetting processes, and call upon DHS to retract this rule.
