1 World Prohibition: The Great Open Door 1917

handle is hein.beal/worpgre0001 and id is 1 raw text is: WORLD PROHIBITION
THE GREAT OPEN DOOR
With National Prohibition of the liquor traffic in the United States
ACHIEVED through the ratification of the national amendment by more
than 36 states, the next logical step is WORLD PROHIBITION.
The absolute necessity of Prohibition among civilians as well as soldiers
to the winning of the war, has emphasized its necessity in order to successful
achievement in time of peace, and prepared the way for its rapid extension
around the world. In the RECONSTRUCTION PERIOD on which the
world is entering, an absolutely essential achievement is the emancipation of
the whole world from the curse of drink.
The International Prohibition Conference held at Columbus, Ohio, No-
vember 19 to 22 inclusive, at which there were dckgates from varius ELuro-
pean and Asiatic countries as well as the Prohibition leaders of the United
States, inaugurated plans for strong, aggressive. world-round Prohibition
conquest. THIS STUPENDOUS UNDERTAKING IS A CHALLENGE
TO EVERY RED-BLOODED AMERICAN WHO WORKS AND PRAYS
FOR PROHIBITION. To the shame of our great country, American brewers
and distillers, foreseeing Prohibition coming with absolute certainty, have for
several years been preparing the way to flood Asiatic and European countries
with their body and soul destroying beverages. The Christian missionaries in
central China are today declaring that liquor from America is fast becoming
a greater obstacle than heathenism itself in the extension of Christ's King-
dom. They are appealing for protection. The Chinese are mystificd by the
fact that both the Gospel and the drink traffic are being brought to them from
Christian America. World Prohibition is the only solution of the problem.
