TEN THOUSAND A YEAR.

                      A NOVEL.

      BY SAMUEL C. WARREN.
AUTHOR OF THE DIARY OF A LONDON PHYSICIAN.

We know of no book in the English language so calculated to rivet the attention, and awaken the pnreet
and deepest sympathies of the heart, as ' Ten Thousand a Year.' The person who has not read this work has
yet to learn a lesson in the mysteries of human nature.-Oxford and Cambridge Review.
'Ten Thousand a Year' is undoubtedly one of the greatest works ever written in the English language.
It can be read and re-read with great pleasure and satisfictiun.-London AItJncum.
It is one of the most entertaining books ever publishd.-Morning (ronicle.
We would rather be the author of ' Ten Thousand a Year,' than of all the ' Pickwickn' and ' Nicklebys'
in the world. It is full to overflowing of humor of a very high order; and as for incidents, it coutnina
enough to supply stock for half a score of modern novels.- United Srvice Gazette.
This book is one of the most entertaining that has ever been issued from the pres.-Loondon Times.
The faithful delineations of country with which this volume abounds gives a charm to its pages. The
character of Catherine Aubrey is finely drawn, she is formed to live In the dreams of every reader. The cool
and plotting lawyer is well sketched too in Gammon, and the shuffling pettifogger in Snap. The partner
Quirk is a good specimen of a mere lawyer with professional shrewdness and a positive ignorance of men and
manners out of his profession. The principal character, Titmouse, grows the more contemptible the more he
is elevated, and he is intended as a sketch from life of what are termed the ' scrub aristocracy;' he presents
a rich contrast to the Asibreys, whose Christianity and gentle virtues shine out under every vicissitude, and
tamp them with the seal of a nobility higher than man creates.-Inquirer.
