handle is hein.beal/herkimr0001 and id is 1 raw text is: THE ALBANY ATLAS,
FOR 1847.

DAILY, SEMI-WEEKLY AND WEEKLY.
IRENRY I. VAN DYCK AND WILLIAM CASSIDY, EDITORS.

The publishers of the ALBANY ATLAS Solicit
the patronage of the Democrats of the State, for
the Daily, Semi-Weekly and Weekly Atlas, for
the ensuinF year.
The painful exhibition of defection and of
fraudulent betrayal of party obligation and poli-
tical principles in the recent election, must have
convinced the mass of the Democrats of New
York of the necessity of sustaining, and of ex-
tending the circulation of those Journals which
they deem the true exponents and faithful advo-
cates of their political .creed. Subordinate to,
and co-operating with the zealous and devoted
local Democratic Press, the Albany Atlas is offer-
ed as an instrument in the work of restoring
and maintaining the ascendency of the Demo-
cratic Party. Its circulation is already generally
difFused,: but to make its influence commensurate
with the views and wishes of its publishers and
with the exigencies of the future, they earnestly
seek that its circulation may be increased, and its
means of usefulness fortified. The kind inten-
tions of the Democracy of the State towards this
press, which were indicated in the almost unani-
mous selection, on the first ballot. of one of its
editors as State Printer by a caucus of the De-
mocratic members of the last Legislature, have
been frustrated by the abolition of that office and
indeed of all official patronage. To reimburse
us, therefore, for the heavy outlays necessarily
incident to the establishment of a new press, and
its large daily expenditures, we must throw our-
selves upon the favor of the individual members
of the Democratic family. Though without the
aid (at all times dangerous to a free press) of rich
and favored classes, we have no fear that a little
additional effort on the part of our friends will

not give stability, if not prosperity to an indepen-
dent advocate of the rights and interests of the
masses.
The ATLASwill furnish promptly the proceed-
ings of the State Legislature and the earliest pn-
lical information. The facilities offered by the
Electric Telegraphenable the Atlas to furnish
news from 24 to 48 hours ahead of the New York
Journals, and still more in advance of the
Washington papers. The Atlas will give also a
prompt report of the markets here, and at the
principal points, from which quotations may be
of general value; and will endeavor to make its
literary and miscellaneous department, instruc-
tive and interesting.
