The student is presented with textual material, extracts of statutes and reading materials, actual legal cases, and discussion prob- lems. The student should seek to understand the philosophy and pur- pose of military law. The legal areas, cases, and points of law discussed are used merely as a teaching vehicle to develop an understanding of the law; the text is not designed for rote memorization of specific items or rules. The development of military law skills, such as filling out the forms or knowledge of specific procedural actions, will be left to the branch basic course.
