John McDougall Installed as Bar President

Midlands lawyerJohn 0. McDougall
was installed as president of the Bar
during the Annual Meeting in June.
A partner in the McDougall & Self
law firm of Sumter and Columbia,
McDougall has been an active Bar mem-
ber since 1971.
During his tenure, McDougall plans
to strengthen the state's justice system
using comments collected during a
series of Citizens Summits; implement a
free Legal Info Line that will allow the
public to ask volunteer lawyers basic legal
questions; and encourage lawyers and
county bar associations to provide sup-
plies and free legal assistance to battered
women's shelters in their communities,
McDougall, whose practice is limit-
ed to family and matrimonial law, is a

graduate of Wofford College
and the University of South
Carolina School of Law. He
has held a number of posi-
tions within the Bar, includ-
ing president-elect, treasurer
and secretary.
McDougall is a past presi-
dent of both the South Caro-
lina Trial Lawyers Associa-
tion and the state-chapter
of the American Academy
of Matrimonial Lawyers. He
has served on the Citizens Advisory
Committee on Judicial Qualifications
for the state's Judicial Merit Selection
Commission.
A Charleston native, McDougall is
a member of the Advisory Board and

Bench/Bar Committee for the South
Carolina Families for Kids; the Sumter
Rotary Club; the Sumter and Richland
County Bar Associations; and is a Life
Fellow of the South Carolina Bar
Foundation.
