Henry Smythe Jr. to Lead South Carolina Bar

Henry B. Smythe Jr., managing
director of Buist, Moore, Smythe &
McGee PA. in Charleston, was installed
as president of the South Carolina Bar
during the Annual Meeting in June.
Smythe plans to hold a series of
Citizen Summits to gather perceptions
and recommendations from judges,
lawyers and the public on South
Carolina's justice system. He also will
work toward improvements in criminal
and civil case docketing and continue
the Bar's Better Client Relations pro-
gram.

product liability, commercial and civil

Schoo.He has served as the Bar's

president-elect, treasurer,
secretary and as chairman
of the House of Delegates.
In 1984, Smythe was presi-
dent of the Bar's Young
Lawyers Division.
His father, Henry B.
Smythe, served as presi.
dent of the South Carolina
Bar in 1972.
Smythe is a member of
the American Board of
Trial Advocates and the
Product Liability Advisory past Preside
Council.
He currently serves on
the Board of Directors of Spoleto
Festival USA and is co-chairperson of
the Charleston Civic Forum. Smythe is

a former member of the Charleston
City Council and former president of
the Trident Community Foundation.

Phase Two of Bar's Web Site Now Online INSIDE

In July, the Bar unveiled Phase
Two of its Web site, which will allow
members to sign up for committees,
sections and task forces online, as well
as access membership records.

Phase TWo also features useful tips
for the public, including information
about South Carolina Bar programs
and the state's legal system. 'Informa-
tion on how to choose a lawyer, how to
apply for Pro Bono legal assis-
tance and how to participate in
Law Related Education Division
activities also will be included.
During its first year online,
more than 20,000 people accessed
the Bar's Web site to receive the lat-
est information on ethics opinions,
legislative updates and continuing
legal education programs.
In October, the Bar's Web site
won a Gold Medal in the Internet
1996 World Expo, a world's fair of
U Internet sites.
