Frank Lever Receives DuRant Award The 1993 DuRant Distin- guished Public Service Award was presented to A. Frank Lever of Lexington in June at the Annual Meeting in Hilton Head. Lever is a retired Family Court Judge :f the 11th Ju- dicial Circuit A graduate of the Univer- sity of South Carolina School of Law, Lever served as vice chairman of the War Flhnd Drive and was elected to the South Carol;.ia House of Rep- resentatives, where he served foui years. He also has been an active member of the Lexington Jaycees and the Lexington County Democratic Party. Lever was elected judge of t Family Court, 11th Judicial Circ in 1977 and remained on the ber for six years. He also served as s- circuit court judge on two occasic Since his retirement, he has mes M. He is married to Martha Montieth, and they have three chil- dren, Anne, Frank III and George. The DuRant Award was established in memory of Charlton DuRant by his family. Durant was a popular lawyer who practiced in Manning for 56 yearsand served as a state senator and a special associate justice Df the South Carolina Supreme Court. Each year, the award is given to a lawyer in recognition of outstanding public service to the legal profession and to the community. The Board of I to Directors of the South Carolina .a& Bar Foundation selects the re- cipient of this award. Because nomination and selection of the re- cipient of the award is done by one's professional peers, the award has be come one of the most prestigious forms of recognition given by the South Carolina Bar.
