As of January, 2000 Attorneys must
certiy that they have met the Mandato-
ry Conntiung Legal Education require-
ments when filing their biennial regis-
tration forms due during the month of
their birthday. Although MCLE ie-
qmirements have been In effect since
December 31,1998, attorneys must now
certify that they have completed the re-
quirements when they file their bienni-
al registration statement in 2000 or
2001 It is usually filed during the
month of your birthday To learn the
year you must file at contact the Office
of Court Administration at (212) 428-
2800.
IRequirements for Attorneys
Admitted LESS Than Two Years
Newly admitted attorneys must

complete a mrrdmum of 32 credit hours
of Bridge-The-Gap courses during
their first two years of admission. Law
graduates can begin to obtain credit for
these courses upon graduation from
law school. Sixteon hours must be com-
pleted during each of the first two
years of admission, Including three
credit hours of Ethics and Professional-
ism, six hours of Skills, and seven
hours of Professional Practice and Prac-
tice Management. Eight credit hours
may be carriel over from the first to the
sicond year but ethics courses may not
be carried over.
Audio or video tapes may not be
used to meet these re-ilrements The
reporting date Is based 'ipon your date
of admislison for the first two )ears
Thereafter the reporting date and regis-
tration Is based upon your birthday Six
credit hours of courses may be carried

from the second year to the regular
CLE requirementr
Requirements For Attorneys

Twenty-four i ours of courses must
be completed during each biennial reg-
istration period Including four credit
hours of ethic. and twenty hours of
Professional Practice/Practice Manage-
ment. Six hours of courses may be car-
ried over from one reporting cycle to
the next. Audio or video tapes of ac-
credited CLE programs such as those
for sale at the Nassau Academy of Law
may be used to falfill these require-
m-nts.

FIRSTTime
Accredited CLE courses such as
those offered at the Nassau Academy of
Law taken since Jan. 1, 1993 may be ap-
plied toward meeting your require.
ments for the hutial reporting cycle
Attorneys who must file thent regis-
tration statements during calendat year
2000 must certify that they have com-
pleted 12 credit hours of accredited
CLE courses as of the date of the filing
Although the requirement is for 24
hours including 4 hours of ethics, the
ethics requirement has been waived for
attorney filing In 2000 only Attorneys
who have accumulated more than 12
credit hours at the timc of their filing
may carry over a maximum of 6 crdit
hours to the next biennial cycle.
Attorneys who file their registration
statements during calendar yetr 2001
must certify that they have completed
the full 24 credit hours of accredited
CLE courses including a total of four
credit hours of ethics. Attorneys who
have accumulated more than 24 ciedit
hours at the time of their filing maycar-
ry over a maximum of six hours to the
next biennial reporting cycle.

at (516) 747-4464. Be sure to retain your
Certificates of Attendance for attending
live lectures or Certificates of Comple-
ton for listening to video or audio
tapes for at least 4 years.*
