Weekly
Luncheon Program
The Honorable Albert L. Reeves,
Judge of the United States District
Court for the Western Division of
the Western District of Missouri,
has accepted the invitation of the
Kansas City Bar Association to
speak at the first luncheon meeting
of the Kansas City Bar Association
to be held January 7, 1949, at 12:15
o'clock at the Phillips Hotel. This
Association is highly privileged to
have Judge Reeves inaugurate this
program. This luncheon meeting is
the first of a regular series of meet-
ings to be held at the Phillips Hotel,
beginning at 12:15 P.M. and ending
promptly at 1:30 P.M. -at a cost to
each member attending of $1.50.
As outlined in the acceptance ad-
dress of the Bar Association Presi-
dent, Clay C. Rogers, it is the pur-
pose of this Association for the
coming year to accomplish the fol-
lowing:
1. To revive the activities of the
organization.
2. To renew fraternity and good
fellowship among the members by
frequency and regularity of meet-
ings..
3. To extend the membership to
all qualified members of this Bar.
4. To exert the influence of the
Association, for the benefit not only
of the lawyers, but of the commun-
ity.
In fulfilling these aims of the As-
sociation, the weekly luncheon meet-
ing is to be inaugurated with the
purpose in mind of thus effecting a
vitalized program for the Bar, which
will be informative to all who take
advantage of this program and
which will at the same time be self-
sustaining.

This weekly luncheon, to be held
each Friday, will include an inter-
esting, well known, and well in-
formed speaker, who will discuss
some topic of current interest to all.
The Program Committee under
the Chairmanship of Leo Parker,
the Vice-President of the Associa-
tion, is now engaged in contacting
prospective speakers and securing
commitments for these engagements,
and in making such arrangements
the Committee has in mind bring-
ing to Kansas City prominent lead-
ers in the business, professional and
governmental fields. It is anticipated
that with such a group of well in-
formed and prominent persons, each
week will present an opportunity
for the Bar to hear a discussion of
subjects and problems ranging in
scope from local to international.

The following members of this
Association have consented to as-
sist Mr. Leo Parker in making the
arrangements for the weekly lunch-
eon meetings:
Emmett A. Scanlan, Jr.
Frank P. Barker
John W. Oliver
Clif Langsdale
Harry I. Schwimmer
John H. Lathrop
Lyman Field
Thomas B. Phillips
Charles L. Carr
James J. Waters
Paul R. Stinson

As an additional assistance in ad-
vancing these luncheons, numerous
