The Iowa attorney.general's office says court suits for some $34 million in damages are pending against the state and tort claims for another $30 million have been filed but aren't in court. Represenialtive Frank Crabb (Rep., Denison) says he wIll Introduce legislation to limit the damages that can be recovered from the state or any local government on a tort claim to $100,000 for injury to one person and $300,000 for injury to all persons involved in each claim. Representative Joan Lipaky (Rep., Cedar Rapids) has introduced a bill that would re- quire all cities, counties, school districts and other local governing bodies to buy tort liability insurance--and limit their ability to the maximum coverage under their policy. The workshops will begin on Wednes- day afternoon, June 15, and continue through Friday afternoon, June 17. The program is planned for fifteen hours of Continuing Legal Education credit.
