SUPREME COURT ADOPTS RULES
FOR COURT ADMINISTRATION.
APPROVES APPOINTMENT OF
CHIEF JUDGES IN DISTRICTS,
AND ADOPTS AMENDMENTS
TO CERTAIN RULES OF CIVIL
PROCEDURE

Set forth below for the Information of the
membership is a recent Order of the Supreme
Court relative to the above. Any member
wishing copies of the rules may obtain the
same by writing to Mr. C. A. Kadig, Statis-
tician of the Judicial Department, Supreme
Court of Iowa, Statehouse, Des Moines, Iowa.
IN THE SUPREME COURT OF IOWA
ORDER ADOPTING RULES FOR
COURT ADMINISTRATION, APPROV-
ING APPOINTMENT OF CHIEF
JUDGES    IN   THE   DISTRICTS    AND
ADOPTING AMENDMENTS TO CER-
TAIN EXISTING RULES OF CIVIL
PROCEDURE.
Pursuant to Senate File 221, Laws Sixty-
Second General Assembly, amending chap-
ter 604, Code 1966, the supreme court has
adopted Rules for Court Administration,
copy of which is attached.
Pursuant to Rule 4 so adopted, the chief
justice, with approval of the supreme
court, has appointed the district judges
shown on the attached list to serve as
chief judges In their respective districts
for a two-year term, commencing January
1, 1968, with eligibility for reappointment.
This order shall serve as such appoint-
ment.
Adoption of these Rules for Court Admin-
Istration makes necessary some amend-
ments to existing Rules of Civil Procedure
to become effective January 1, 1968. The
supreme court has approved and adoptcd
the amendments attached. In addition
thereto they have approved and adopted a
further amendment to Rule 215.1 as fol-
lows:
Amend Rule 215.1 by striking the
words or term from line four (4)
of the next to the last paragraph
thereof.

RETIREMENT ADOPTED
MEMBERSHIP HIGHEST IN HISTORY
LEGISLATIVE POLICY RE-AFFIRMED

The Board of Gove rnors of The Iowa State
Bar Association met for Its Third Regular
Meeting on December 6, 1967, just prior to
the 28th Annual Tax School. Space does not
permit setting forth in complete detail the
minutes of the meeting and the report herein
carries only the highlights.
President Neiman called the meeting to
order and the Secretary reported a quorum
present.
President Neiman advised the Board of
Governors that he, together with the Vice
President and Secretary had attended the
funeral service of deceased Board member,
John J. Locher, Jr., in Cedar Rapids and that
a memorial to Mr. Locher had been contri-
buted by the Association to the Iowa State
Bar Foundation.
Thereupon, it was moved, seconded and
unanimously carried that the reading of the
minutes of the last meeting be waived and
that said minutes be approved as heretofore
mailed to each member of the Board.
. TREASURER'S REPORT
The Treasurer reported that as of the fiscal
year through November 30, 1967, the Asso-
ciation had total assets of $118,076.55, with
a net worth of $117,668.35, and has operated
completely In the bladck to date. Each mem-
ber of the Board had before him the operating
statement and balance sheet for the first five
months of the current fiscal year through

November 30, 1967, and the individual items
set forth therein were discussed.
The Association's cash position as of No-
vember 30, 1967, exclusive of accounts re-
ceivable, accrued Interest receivable and legal
forms inventory, was as follows:

28th ANNUAL TAX SCHOOL
THIRD LARGEST
IN HISTORY
Over 1,200 lawyers attended the 28th
Annual Tax School held in Des Moines
on December 7, 8 and 9, 1967, making
it the third largest in history. Closed
circuit TV was again used and many
compliments were paid to the Tax Com-
mittee for its excellent work In prepar-
ing the School.
The Board of Governors Is grateful
to the Tax Committee for its efforts and
the Headquarters Office has been ad-
vised that the Committee li already
hard at work planning the 29th Annual
Tax School which will be held in Decem-
ber of 1968.
