Plans for the Annual Meeting to be held on
June 1, 2 and 3, 1950 ,at Waterloo, are already
being made to the end that the forthcoming
Annual Meeting may be the most successful
and best meeting in the history of this Associa-
tion.
While the forthcoming meeting will be of-
ficially the fifty-sixth consecutive Annual
Meeting, it Is, at the same time, the seventy-
fifth anniversary bf the first Annual Meeting of
the Iowa State Bar Association. Those familiar
with the early proceedings of the Association
will recall that the organization meeting of
the Iowa State Bar Association took place in
Des Moines, Iowa, on May 27, 1874. Judge
James Grant of Davenport was the temporary
chairman of the meeting and fifty-four attor-
neys from all over Iowa attended. A constitu-
tion was adopted, and It is interesting to note
that the objects of the Iowa State Bar Associa-
tion as set forth in Its first Constitution in 1874
are still contained in Article II of the present
Articles of Incorporation of this Association.
The officers of the Association and the Board
of Governors are presently engaged in making
plans for the forthcoming diamond jubilee
meeting, and every effort is being made in the
planning to meet the desires of the member-
ship. Many members have expressed a desire
that a substantial portion of the Annual Meet-
ing be devoted to the presentation of subjects
of practical Interest and help to the practicing
lawyer. The officers and the Board, in connec-
tion with laying plans for the meeting, v ant
to know whether the membership desires tuch
a program and, if so, what the preferences are
for subjects to be presented and discussed.
Necessarily, limitations of time must be con-
sidered. Listed at the end of this article are a
variety of subjects of direct value to the prac-
ticing lawyer. If the members desire such a
program, it will be much appreciated if each
will cut out the coupon following this article
and mail it to the Headquarters Office, check-
ing In the order of preference the subjects each
would like to have presented. o
Whether the presentation will be by a single
speaker or by means of a panel discussion will
be determined by the nature of the subjects
chosen, but it is desired that either type will
allow audience participation. Taxation and
Estate Planning are deliberately omitted be-
cause of their comprehensive coverage at the
annual Tax School. If there are subjects other
than those listed, and other than taxation and
estate planning, that you prefer, please list
them In the space provided.
Plans are also being made for an outstand-
ing entertainment program and nationally-
known speakers. Further information concern-
